ParentalControl is owned and operated as an information service for parents and teachers by Rits Group, Ireland's leading speacialist Information Security Services company. The purpose of the site is to assist Parents and Teachers in assessing the risks and issues which they may encounter when their children start to make use of the Internet and Mobile technology which is a great part of growing up today.
Unlike most of us over 30's the use of technology by youngsters is way beyond the days of Pacman and seaside amusements. Today unlike in our own youth, children can be permanently connected, whether it be by text, “Free calls” or Internet and console gaming. More and more youngsters are choosing to live a great part of their lives "online" publishing details of their daily comings and goings on social networking sites and interacting with remote friends on gaming sites.
Coupled with this easier access to the virtual world is the promotional activities undertaken by big brands to entice youngsters to register their details with them in return for prizes or webspace so that they can be groomed for marketing campaigns of the future.
Our Aim
It is our intention at ParentalControl to provide parents and teachers with pertinent information and news around these and similar topics to enable the less technologically committed ones of us to keep pace with the language and emerging technologies being used by our kids.
Apart from providing easy to understand explanations of the technologies and toys, we aim to provide guidance to help parents choose appropriate, ideally free, software and solutions which will help give them more visibility and assurance around the activities of "Johnny" or "Mary" as they adopt the age old practice of "clamming up" in their teenage years or being evasive because "you would not understand".
The site is structured to provide information based on various topics. There is also recommended tools which can be used to protect the against the risks and threats within each topic category. Where possible we have tried to present our choice of a suitable "Free" tool to achieve this. However it is not always possible to find "Free" tools fo appropriate efficiency or reliability, therefore we also recommend tools which need to be bought and paid for. It should be noted that many of the free tools are only free for "Home Use" and as such to comply with the relevant vendors license agreement you may have to purchase a license for the product.
Apart from the Information Push approach of providing information and advice by Topic we are also developing a forum where you can chat and discuss matters of interest / concern with peers.
The last feature of the site is links to other relevant information or websites, which may prove useful when trying to get a fuller understanding of either a technology, threat or topic.
