Recovery and Emergency Response

It may not always feel like it but most of the time, home computing is relatively carefree. However, if disaster strikes, you may be surprised to hear that the situation is not half as bad as you initially thought.

It is entirely understandable, when a computer will not start-up, to think that everything on it has been lost. Do not give up all hope. It may be that your disk will need to be replaced but it is likely that your data is still intact and can be successfully recovered.

A number of things may have occured. Your computer may have been infected by a virus, some boot essential files may have been deleted or corrupted or perhaps a physical componant of your hard disk is faulty.

Regardless of the cause, you will need an alternative method of starting up your system before you make any attempt to recover your disk.

As your computer ages you will find that occasionally programs stop working for no obvious reason, devices can lose conectivity or small componants can burn out or break.

Much of the less serious problems can be put down to human error, neglect or inexperience. Annoying as these problems are, they are recoverable.

But there is also a great need to be consistant with your approach to security to avoid the more serious problems such as data loss or identity theft. (Trusted Partners - Rits Security Group)
